Order a year's supply instead of a couple of months worth. For example, if you order 1,000 sheets of A4, 1 colour, 1 side, it will cost you about $90.00. If you order 2,000 sheets it will cost you about $135.00. You can double the quantity for an extra $45.00 - a 25% savings on the unnecessary cost of printing the same job twice. Understand that printing has two components in pricing.

The first is the set-up cost which is charged on every job. The second is the printing time. It is best to print as many sheets as you can on the one job to take advantage of the set up charge. This spreads the set-up cost over more sheets, therefore the cost per sheet decreases significantly. Now that's "cheap printing" - without compromising quality.

The wash-up charge can vary between different printers but is usually between $15 and $30. If you use a special ink colour from the Pantone Matching System (PMS) rather than black for your job, the wash-up charge is usually anywhere between $15 and $40.This is normally a one time charge. If you order your letterhead and pay the wash up fee, and your envelopes will be printed in the same special colour, you probably should order your envelopes to be printed even if you're not quite ready for them yet and save the wash-up charge. Otherwise there will be another wash-up charge when you order your envelopes later. Ask your printer to tell you the wash-up charges if he hasn't already and verify that you will only be charged one wash-up fee per order.

Look for a cheaper paper. Paper prices are definitely on the rise, so to combat this, look for a substitute paper that will look and feel about the same, but not cost quite as much. You may have to give up the nice smooth finish you have had for a little rougher finish to save money. Maybe you'll have to settle for an off-white sheet instead of the exact white you wanted.
